The Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB), established in 1956, is a multilateral development bank with a unique social mandate. The CEB works to strengthen social cohesion and build thriving communities in Europe by financing projects that promote inclusive growth, support vulnerable groups and bolster environmental sustainability.

The Loans & Social Development Directorate of the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) is looking for an intern for its International Affairs and Analysis Unit. S/he will report to the Head of Unit and work in close collaboration with colleagues in the Unit and the Directorate.

The International Affairs & Analysis Unit (L&D-IAA) aims at improving the CEB’s standing as an international financial and knowledge institution to sharpen the social mandate of the Bank and support its services in the fields of international affairs and economic research.

IAA promotes the CEB’s role and objectives on the international stage by reaching out to the representatives of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission and the European Parliament as well as by representing the Bank in European working and advocacy groups and formats. The Unit also produces economic research through scientific and analytical methods, combined with findings gathered from the Bank’s operations.

Main Responsibilities:

• Support the Unit staff in preparing speaking points and background notes (e.g. country sheets) for the Senior Management of the Bank, in particular on economic and social economic subjects.
• Contribute to ongoing research work in the Unit, including to research projects that are executed in cooperation with external consultancies and academia.
• Support the Head of Unit in the outreach activities of the Bank in international fora, including with other IFIs, the Institutions of the European Union, lobby groups and academia.
• Work, under supervision of the Head of Unit, on bank internal projects and projects with external impact and support the team in comprehensive organizational matters, e.g. helping to draw the concept and organize scientific seminars etc.

Academic background:

• Graduated within the past 24 months or currently enrolled in the final academic year at an institute of higher education (ideally at a Master’s level or equivalent).

• Studies in economics, finance, business administration, governance, social and/or political economy.

Professional background and skills:

• Proficiency in Excel, familiarity with macroeconomic indicators an asset. 

Applicants to the CEB Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, but any experience relevant to the role would constitute an advantage.

Language skills: Excellent command of one of the two CEB official languages (English and French), both oral and written. Working knowledge of the other one is desirable.

Internship duration: The selected candidate will undertake an internship for the duration of 6 months, starting in February 2025. Some flexibility regarding the starting date can be granted to match the Intern’s schedule/requirements of their academic institution.

Internship allowance: lnterns at the CEB are paid 1 800 € per month as a flat-rate indemnity to contribute towards living costs, public transportation and accommodation. Travel expenses or other costs are not met by the Bank.

Admission to an internship does not confer on the intern the status of a CEB staff member, nor does it confer any entitlement to subsequent appointment on a permanent or temporary basis.
